The National Transport Authority of Ireland (NTA) is responsible for the provision of public passenger land transport services including bus and rail services across Ireland. They appointed fwdesign to generate a comprehensive set of design guidelines for the display of travel information in Ireland and to maintain and update the guidelines for a period of three years.

The NTA’s requirement is to create a unified, consistently branded and legible graphic design approach that can be applied across the national transport network. Our aspiration was to establish a new best practise standard and create a transport information system that integrated pedestrian wayfinding details with those from individual transport systems, including rail, bus and tram. In addition, all information content needed to be in dual language and in keeping with our studio philosophy - provide an intuitive interpretation allowing whole journey planning from any given point along the route.
